1992  Archaeological excavation of the SouthernSong imperial palace and the city wall at Hangzhou , Zhejiang Province, China.  The main finds are ceramics from the post-Tangperiod (tenth to fourteenth centuries). I wrote the archaeological records and drew the cartographies.

1992 Archaeological excavation at the Jian ware site of the Song and YuanDynasties, Jianyang , Fujian Province, China .  I excavated two large dragon kilns, wrotearchaeological records and drew the cartographies.

1992 Survey of the grottoes in Linyou County , Shaanxi Province, China.

1991 Archaeological excavation at the Jian ware site of the Song and YuanDynasties (post-Tang), Jianyang , Fujian Province, China .  I excavated the site of a mill of producingblack porcelain wares, and wrote archaeological records and drew the cartographies.

1991  Survey of about 105 historical sites andinstitutions, including archaeological sites, Buddhist monasteries, Shintoshrines, museums, and conservation institutes, in eleven cities in Japan .

1991  Survey of the grottoes in Linyou County , Shaanxi Province, China .

1990 Excavation at two tombs' site of the Western Han Dynasty and a palacesite of  the Tang Dynasty, Xi'an , Shaanxi Province , China.  I wrote the archaeological records and drewthe cartographies for the two tombs and one site of the Tang.

     陕西省西安市人。北京大學歷史學学士、碩士,美國堪萨斯大學藝術史博士,紐約大都會藝術博物館博士後,主攻中國佛教藝術。1999年赴美國,先後為華盛頓弗利爾藝術博物館、美國國家美術館高級訪問學者。現為美國北卡大學藝術博物館研究員。著有《彬縣大佛寺造像藝術》、《中國古塔的藝術歷程》、《沙海佛光——敦煌莫高窟漫筆》、《佛祖真容——中國石窟寺探秘》、《石窟寺史話》、《龍門石窟研究》(合著)、《龍門石窟雕刻萃编——佛》、《青州龍興寺佛教造像藝術》(合著)等專著,以及研究論文四十餘篇。
